Happy Canada Day!

I am a Canadian and most times, I am proud of that.  I love our country.  I love the place I live in our country.  I love the freedoms we have.  I love our universal health care (of course, there are parts of it which could use improving…but in general, we are so fortunate to have access to the best in the world).  I am so proud that our country offers a full year parental leave.  I am proud that we are ‘peace keepers’.  I am proud that we are forward thinking in terms of gay marriage.  I am proud that we have a great sense of humour in general.  I am so proud of so many things.  If I were to travel, I would proudly show off my maple leaf.  I am a hockey watching, skate owning, touqe wearing Canadian.

All that being said…we had a pretty laid back day.  We spent the majority of the day at my dad’s house.  We were helping get his air conditioning installed and a floor built for his new gazebo in the back yard.  The kids were into everything…..and even managed to escape the back yard!  There was much sun had…much sprinkler running…much laughing.  This evening, friends of ours came over for supper and a little Wii.  We bowled, we tennis’d.  It was good all around.  Now, I am making a huge pot of soup…apparently having the temperature in the low 30’s today wasn’t enough heat for me to avoid wanting a pot of hamburger soup.  I hope we have a fire again tonight.  I don’t think we will make it to any fire works..the girls have been in bed for a couple of hours already and the sun isn’t even fully down.

Next year, we will hopefully make it to a parade and fireworks.  This year I am happy to lounge in the hamock in front of the fire pit, eating marshmellows S so perfectly toasts for me!

Happy Day!

6 Years Of Being a Mrs. June 30, 2008

S and I have been married for six years!  The first few years of marriage seemed to fly by!  Since having H and E, it feels like we have been married for an eternity.  I put it down to being awake for the past three years!  Never sleeping means you grow alot more memories…too bad you are deprived of REM sleep and can’t hardly remember what you at for breakfast most of the time!

Our wedding six years ago was great.  There was drama of course….would you believe my maid of honour and one of S’s groomspeople decided the morning of the wedding that they couldn’t stand up for us…after traveling 12 hours to get to our wedding!  Honestly, it was the BEST day!  The weather held for our ceremony, it was so hot, but it rained all night and cooled things off.  We ate great food, we danced all night.  We slept so well….see how there is a theme in world….SLEEP.  That would have been a great anniversary gift….uninterupted sleep…why didn’t H and E get that for us.

This year S bought me a Wii.  I have wanted one for a long time.  Of course, he and M have played it all night….I chose to SLEEP!  I bought S a fishing rod.  It really doesn’t seem like much.  But, it offers him the chance to get out on his own and relax…something that is challenging alot of the time.  Of course, I also bought E a fishing rod so she can go with her daddy…so much for alone, relaxing time!  But, if he does get out on his own, she can post his rod, and SLEEP as he fishes!  See, I was a good wife, in a round about way.

We spent our anniversary out at my dad’s lake lot.  We swam.  We ate.  We got so burnt.  We hurt today.  I think there is sun stroke for most of us….a little bit.  Today, we are going to hang out side…why not….we are already so burnt, a little more sun won’t hurt.  Tomorrow is Canada Day, so we have another day together as a family to look forward to.  Maybe tomorrow will be the lake again….more sun, more red.  We are suckers for punishment.  Really…if you had 8 months of snow, you would burn your ass to a crisp too when the sun was out!

Our anniversary was pretty low key.  Our life with 2 ‘boddlers’ baby/toddlers, feels like we live at a carnival most of the time anyways.  I am a happy married women.  There are times when we could kill each other.  No one knows his buttons like I do…and I so love to push them for fun sometimes.  We are still planning on the 365 day thing…but that is for MY birthday…oh, lucky me you are thinking!  I hope our next six are just as great and have more sleep involved though.
